Project Update June 2026
The Craig y Don Croquet Club, Community Sports Pavilion
The Croquet Club Committee on behalf of Craig y Don Sports and Community Centre (CyDS&CC) the holding charity that has the lease for the site, has now secured the required funding for the CyD S&CC Community Sports Pavilion (managed by the Croquet Club) to be built!
The following funders together with the contribution of some £18,000 from Croquet Club members and activities, have generated the required budget of £165,200
· National Lottery Community Fund
· Gwynt y Mor Community Fund
· Croquet England.
· Llandudno Town Council
· The Charity Sported (for Disabled access)
· CyD Bowls Club
The National Lottery has sanctioned that all the funding is in place and available and has therefore given their formal approval for the project to start.
We have been out to competitive tender from six local building companies, and the Committee have agreed to appoint Thomas Jones (Llandudno Ltd,) as the main contractor. We expect work to start on site before the end of June and hope to complete by the end of September.
The building will be of timber framed construction with 18mm tongue and groove cladding. The drawings below show, the building elevations and the floor layout. The external cladding will be painted the same colour as the Community Centre, to comply with the Planning Officers requirement.
The existing club house will be cleared following the last Social Sunday on the 14th of June. The club house will then be emptied ready to hand over to the main contractor to be used as part of the building site facility. The playing equipment trolleys and mallets will be stored in a metal store which will be installed between the current clubhouse and the end of the lawn near the site entrance. The existing green metal shed is to be repositioned next to the small concrete shed (next to the composting toilets) for re- use. The wooden shed is being dismantled and scrapped. Linda Pike has kindly agreed that the remainer of the club’s equipment can be stored in her garage for the next few months.
When the pavilion is built, we will lose all the shrubs from our current clubhouse down to the drain in the centre of the tarmac path towards the composting loos. . If you can make use of any of these plants in your garden, please contact Paul and Fiona Seeley by email, paulseeley@btinternet.com as they have kindly offered to coordinate the removal of the plants.
The Main Contractor, will install security fencing to close off the site of works. This will include the passage at the rear of the Community Centre alongside the
tennis courts, so access through the CYDS&CC property complex will be around the front of the Community Centre.
The Club house will be available for shelter as normal until the site is formally handed over to Main Contractor, but there will be no facilities available inside for members use. There will however be an external electric socket fixed to the outside of the clubhouse opposite the black waste bin which members can use to make hot drinks, but utensils and crockery will need to be brought on site and removed offsite after croquet play has ended.
The initial discussions with Thomas Jones have been very positive, but if you have any issues with the project, please contact the Chairman on royandbetty@hotmail.co.uk as he is the only person formally nominated to discuss the contract with Thomas Jones.
The Committee has taken every care to ensure that the works will not cause too much disruption. Members will still be able to have some really enjoyable games of Croquet this summer as we look forward to a super new facility to be available for club member’s use before this next coming winter
